Last Monday I had the pleasure of attending the world premier of Matilda the musical at the British Film Institute London Film Festival.
Growing up I was a big fan of Roald Dahl and Matilda was always one of my favourites. Creative, resilient and brave, despite growing up in challenging circumstances, you can't help but love Matilda!! The 1996 Matilda film by Danny DeVito is also one of my all time childhood classic to watch. I also had the pleasure of watching the London theatre musical back in 2017, which I thoroughly enjoyed. With all of this in mind I was a little skeptical about the new musical film as there were such high standards to follow, however, the new film is amazing and I was totally blown away by the production. The music written by Tim Minchin is so catching and cleverly written, the entire production just flows so perfectly. I couldn't believe the talent displayed by little Alisha Weir who plays Matilda Wormwood, her performance was so captivating the entire way through, she completely embodied Matilda perfectly and is definitely one to watch in future film. Emma Thompson was a great Trunchbull, Stephen Graham was hilarious as Harry Wormwood and Lashana Lynch was the sweetest Miss Honey, her vocals were beautifully touching!!
Definitely a half term must watch for the children!!!
