World Book Day 2023!!!

It was a pleasure to attend St Andrew's Church of England, primary school in Lambeth this week for World Book Day! It's the first time that I have visited a school for WBD since becoming a children's author and I was blown away by the effort that was put in by both the children and teachers to dress up as their favourite book characters.

It was lovely to see how enthusiastic the children were about 'From Root to Shoot'. After the reading, they had the opportunity to ask me questions about my journey to becoming a children's author.

A couple of the questions that I was asked were "what inspired me to become a children's author?" and "how long it took me to write the book?".

Here are my answers; I have always written, mainly poetry, however I wanted to write a children's book that promoted self belief as that's something that I'm very passionate about. Growing up, there were not many books that represented multicultural families and I wanted to include family heritage into the storyline and encourage readers to think about their family heritage and genealogy.

Massive thanks to Ann Marie Spring - Head of English at St Andrew's who organised this special World Book Day assembly.

Ann Marie is such a creative mind and went out of her way to make this assembly as engaging as possible.

"If I could go back to school, I'd love to have her as my English teacher!"

The pupils at St Andrew's are very luck to have her.
